    Nurse Practitioner - Dayton, OH - Overview Summary The Nurse Practitioner will provide care to patients who present to the Dayton VA Medical Center Emergency Department. The Emergency Room is the principal portal to admissions and transfers to the Medical Center. Work is predominantly emergent illness. The incumbent evaluates and treats patients presenting for care in the Emergency Room. Most cases are medical emergencies, trauma management is limited. The individual will be involved in triage and management of patients requiring medical and surgical cases. Work Schedule: Typical work hours are 80 hours per pay period. These hours may be in 8, 10 or 12 hour shifts. Please note: due to the nature of this position (ED and MOD) the shift days/times will specifically cover nights, weekends and holidays. Duties - Writing Admission Orders - Performing/documenting initial histories and physical examinations on outpatients - Documenting progress notes and summaries in the patient's medical record - Providing on-going outpatient care for assigned patients - Completing consults - Initiating and expediting requests for consultations and scheduling special tests/studies - Identifying normal and abnormal findings on histories, physical examinations and commonly performed diagnostic studies - Assessing patients, making a diagnosis, developing/implementing treatment plans and monitoring the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions - Ordering and/or performing routine diagnostic procedures, as indicated, within the scope of practice - Instituting and changing orders on patient charts - Obtaining and documenting consents for procedures performed within the NP's scope of practice - Prescribing medications per formulary or non-formulary request where appropriate - Performing wound care management, suturing minor lacerations and removing the sutures - Removing superficial foreign bodies - Drawing blood specimens or obtaining other specimens for laboratory testing as needed - Administering IV fluids - Administering local anesthesia - Inserting a Foley or cudae catheter into the urinary bladder and removing the catheter - Carrying out health promotion and disease prevention activities - Providing education and counseling of patients/families in preventative care, medical conditions and use of prescribed treatments and drugs - $83,307 $146,715 Job Details Application Open Date 5/22/2018 Application Close Date 6/3/2018 Organization Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration Who May Apply None Status None - More About VA - Annual leave shall accrue for full-time Nurses, and Nurse Anesthetists at the rate of 8 hours for each full biweekly pay period. Preferred Experience: Emergency Medicine or Critical Care Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: - Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. - Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. - Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree. Additional Requirements for Nurse Practitioners: A nurse practitioner must be licensed or otherwise recognized as a nurse practitioner in a State, possess a master's degree from a program accredited by the NLNAC or CCNE, and maintain full and current certification as a nurse practitioner from the American Nurses Association or another nationally recognized certifying body. The certification must be in the specialty to which the individual is being appointed or selected. BLS and ACLS. Physical Requirements: Standing (up to 2 hours), walking (up to 6 hours), stooping, bending, reaching, lifting, and turning; repositioning patients; assisting with transfers; pushing or lifting in excess of 45 pounds; visual (corrected to 20/30 or better with color discrimination) and auditory acuity; work for periods of time with arms above shoulder level or with neck in a fully flexed or extended position; possess sound and logical clinical judgment; mature, flexible, sensible individual capable of working effectively in stressful situations, able to shift priorities based on patient needs; ability to work on computers for extended periods of time. - Benefits
