Practice settings may include but is not limited to Critical Care, Primary Care, Acute Care, Mental Health, Emergecny Department, or Geriatrics. The practice of each CNL is based on knowledge, experience, and research, expected to impact patient outcomes in the assigned area and for the facility. The CNL executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches in the management of complex patient care. The CNL is directly responsible to Nurse Manager in the assigned area and is responsible and accountable for the coordination of care for a culturally diverse veteran population. The CNL possesses the knowledge and skills to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process and care management principles within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting, which will then enable effective implementation of health promotion and prevention practices, management of acute and chronic illnesses, and attainment of appropriate lengths of stay and most effective level of care. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. CNL certification - The purpose of the CNL certification is to create a unique credential for graduates of master's and post master's CNL programs. Candidates who meet eligibility requirements and pass the CNL Certification Examination earn the credential of "CNL". The CNL certification is based upon a national standard of requisite knowledge and experiences, thereby assisting employers, the public and members of the Health professions in the assessment of a CNL. A CNL is a master's-prepared clinician certified by the Commission on Nurse Certification. Graduate education is necessary because the CNL must bring a high level of clinical competence and knowledge to the point of care and serve as a resource for the nursing team.
