    Safety and Occupational Health Specialist - Fayetteville, NC - Overview Summary This position is located in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Veterans Health Administration (VHA), Veterans Integrated Service Network 6 (VISN 6), at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center (VAMC) in Fayetteville, North Carolina, within the Safety and Industrial Hygiene Section of the Facilities Management Service (FMS). The Safety and Occupational Health Specialist reports directly to the Chief of the Safety and Industrial Hygiene Section (i.e. the Safety and Occupational Health Manager). The primary reason for this position's existence is to serve as a Safety and Occupational Health Specialist for the FMS, with responsibility for performing work in support of the Safety, Occupational Health, Construction, Fire Safety, and Emergency Management programs at the Fayetteville VAMC. This, position assists the Chief of the Safety and Industrial Hygiene Section with the planning, coordination, supervision, evaluation/monitoring, and administration of a comprehensive facility Safety and Occupational Health program, in accordance with applicable regulations and guidelines concerning the safety of Veteran patients, employees, contractors, students, and visitors. This includes/involves promoting compliance with VA-mandated requirements; evaluating the effectiveness of the safety, occupational health, construction, and fire protection activities of the Fayetteville VAMC; and providing consultation and training to personnel located throughout the Medical Center for the purpose of controlling/mitigating hazards and improving the performance of the Safety, Occupational Health, Construction, Fire Safety, and Emergency Management programs. Developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management. Applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theories, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements. Developing or implementing programs to reduce the frequency, severity, and cost of accidents and occupational illnesses. Analyzing or evaluating new and existing jobs, processes, products, or other systems to determine the existence, severity, probability, and outcome of hazards. Designing or modifying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems to control or eliminate hazards. Inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards and to identify potential new hazards. Training of workers, supervisors, managers, or other safety and occupational health personnel in safety or occupational health subjects.
