Registered Nurse-Non Critical RME - West Haven, CT - Overview Summary Duties Responsibilities of this position includes; - Identifies and monitors all areas throughout the organization where non-critical RME is used; - Provides coverage for other RME Coordinator functions during absence of other RME Coordinator; - Applies advance knowledge and specialized skills in all RME and SPS functions based on RME and SPS Policies Procedural (Handbook) VA Handbook 7176 and other regulatory policies; - Collects non critical RME data and provides quality assurance to RME committee and leadership on an ongoing basis; - Assumes lead role in close collaboration with the other RME Coordinator to ensure compliance with competencies, training, acknowledgement forms, SOP development and implementation related to RME; - Analyzes data and report information to identify need for change in subscribed areas that may include need to minimize risk and ensure effectiveness of clinical quality improvement; - Recommends and authorizes new or revised practices or standard operating procedures based on currently accepted, evidence-based infection prevention; - Incorporates into practice infection prevention methods and performance standards relative to all levels of reprocessing of RME, infection prevention, patient management, and patient safety; - Ensures that facility policy related to cleaning all non critical RME is adhered and promotes high reliability; - Reviews all new equipment purchased to determine appropriate cleaning method and competency/Standard operating procedures prior to equipment being put into service; - Monitors follow-up of all recommendations from other external review visits and formulates communication through supervisory channels. Keeps top leadership informed; - Researches, interprets, identifies, develops and presents elements of educational programs for health care team and/or Infection Control; - Supports staff in utilizing findings from research studies and to pursue studies to improve best practices in SPS and RME areas. RNs appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d) and 7407(d). Preferred Experience: - RN; BSN strongly preferred; Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN desirable; - Experience in sterilization of reusable medical equipment in OR or procedural setting and/or infection control experience desirable; - Knowledge of JC/VHA standards applicable to RME processes; - Current SPS Certification desirable; selected coordinator will be required to obtain and maintain SPS certification if not currently certified; - Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to lead change and promote teambuilding; - High degree of flexibility and strong organization skills. Grade Determinations: The following criteria must be met in determining the grade assignment of candidates, and if appropriate, the level within a grade: - Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, with no additional nursing practice/experience required. - Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience; OR a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing (BSN) with no additional nursing practice/experience. - Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no additional nursing practice/experience. - Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of nursing practice/experience; OR ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a Bachelor's degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no additional nursing practice/experience required. - Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 year's of nursing practice/experience; OR a Doctoral degree.
