Psychology Technician (Psychometrist) - Sheridan, WY - Overview Summary Patient Psychological Assessment and Support: The employee provides screening, testing, and psycho diagnostic evaluation for patients with a variety of highly complex psychological problems and conditions which can affect the ability of patients to function competently at home and/or in other situations. Assignments include the initial screening and continued evaluation of all degrees of severity, some of whom may be uncooperative or hostile, providing psycho diagnostic services, making preliminary interpretations of the data, developing recommended courses of action, and consultation with parents and other professionals. The employee is an active member of the treatment team assessment and review process, which entails contributions to and the development of a treatment and discharge plans for patients with whom he or she is providing direct patient care services. In this capacity, he or she may assist in the development of after care plans if indicated. Further, he or she observes patients assigned to various treatment modalities for changes in physical and/or emotional behavior and reports such changes to the treatment team. The employee works with program Psychologists, functions as a relatively autonomous psychometric in administering and scoring psychological test batteries (including psycho educational and personality test instruments). Interprets validity and significance of data collected, prepares written reports that integrate the patient's psychosocial history and test data; makes recommendations for further action, provides other assistance to program Psychologists in assessment of patients, and enters patient-specific and workload data into approved automated data bases. The employee performs psychological assessments using interview, formal psychological testing and consultation as appropriate, gathers case history, complaints or other problem related information for use in the evaluation and diagnosis of said patients. They will participate in clinical case conferences as a team member, providing information they have obtained about the patient. Performs any other related duties as assigned. The incumbent provides supportive counseling in conduction stress management, and vocational, and/or educational rehabilitation with the patient. Conducts psycho educational groups with veterans including relaxation, stress management, smoking cessation, cognitive behavioral, and pain management groups designed to increase awareness and skills in matters of everyday living, using lectures, counseling techniques, and audiovisual materials. The incumbent develops and maintains a positive working relationship with community health and social service agencies, parole/probation officers and similar groups or individuals as they become involved in the follow-up care of an assigned patient. The incumbent maintains test results/data on patients who are and have been treated in MHRRTP so that treatment effectiveness can be monitored. The incumbent completes vocational assessments with referred veterans. These vocational assessments may include interest, aptitude, psychological profile and attitude testing. The position may be required to transport/drive veterans in government owned vehicles, which requires an annual driver's physical and a valid driver's license.
