In preparation for the November 5, 2024 Consolidated General Election, the Department is seeking applications for seasonal positions of Field Election Deputies (FEDs) who will provide support to Poll Workers at approximately 8 to 10 polling places on Election Day.
FEDs serve from 4:30 a.m. to approximately midnight, first visiting and confirming polling places are set up and opened on time, then monitoring procedural compliance and ensuring poll workers are carrying out their tasks properly and following health and safety protocols. Finally, FEDs assist with polling place closing procedures as needed. Each FED is responsible for a territory of approximately 8 to 10 polling places and is provided with a van. To prepare for Election Day, FEDs must complete several training sessions.

Position Schedule, Requirements and Work Location:
This is a short-term assignment (approximately 40 hours), that includes completion of mandatory training sessions and performing FED duties on Election Day. Actual start of training date is contingent upon completion of the onboarding process. There may be additional elections tasks and projects available, in which case individuals in these positions will be offered to work additional hours.
Following is the training and assignment outline:
This is a temporary exempt as-needed position. Temporary exempt as-needed employees who have worked more than 1040 hours in any consecutive 12-month period, and whose normal work week at the time of inclusion in the system is not less than 20 hours are eligible for health coverage and retirement benefits. Position Salary: $27.5750 to $33.5000 hourly
$57,356 to $69,680 annually
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Experience :
Six (6) months of clerical experience including preparing and maintaining a variety of records and/or documents, filing, use of office equipment, public contact and processing of incoming and outgoing mail.
Substitution :
Any one of the following may substitute for the required experience:
Completion of 15 semester units (or equivalent quarter units) of coursework from an accredited college or university; OR
Completion of a clerical training program (240 hours); OR
Completion of an approved City and County of San Francisco Clerical Administrative training program
Desired Qualifications
Ability to track and address numerous high-priority tasks simultaneously with a professional and confident demeanor
Diplomatic and conscientious people-management skills
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
Ability to use, or learn how to use, a Smart Phone
Ability to safely drive and park a large vehicle (minivan or SUV)

Voters are offered materials and assistance that allow them to independently cast a secret ballot free from intimidation
All election laws are upheld, and procedures are consistently followed.

Additional Requirement: Applicants must have a valid California driver's license and a clean DMV record.
