This is a great opportunity to work within the Parks & Recreation field in a County Park in a pleasing outdoor environment. The person employed in this position would assist with all aspects of landscape maintenance as an individual as well as within a crew. They will also be responsible for skilled operation of various small equipment (chainsaws, weed-eaters, blowers, etc.), and the skilled operation of large equipment such as mowers, tractors, loaders, backhoes, dump trucks, and bucket truck. Distinguishing Features A successful candidate should have the following knowledge, skills and abilities: Considerable knowledge of the principles of landscape design and maintenance. Considerable knowledge of the propagation and cultivation of flowers, plants, shrubs and trees. Considerable knowledge of pesticides, fertilizers and techniques of application. Considerable knowledge of turf maintenance. Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees. Candidates must be able to exercise independent judgment and initiative Work environment is outdoors with exposure to multiple types of machines, various pesticides, and heights (in bucket truck and man lift). Must be able to lift 50-75 lbs. Minimum Education and Experience Graduation from high school or GED and two years in landscape management. Prefer Associates degree in horticulture or related field. Must have a valid driver's license. Must have ability to obtain a pesticide license and within 1 year of employment. A higher education level may be considered as a substitution for all or part of the experience requirement.
