Overview Provides supervision and rehabilitation to juveniles who have been referred to the department.Participates in planning of programs, policies or objectives for own work group and department. Responsibilities Supervises child throughout the juvenile process by conducting home, school and office visits to determine what resources are in the best interest of juvenile. Counsels with juveniles, family and other person and/or agencies as needed; provide Crisis Intervention Counseling to families. Conducts ongoing assessment of risk; arranges needed support services, makes recommendations and provides appropriate supervision of all juveniles on caseload. Prepares documentation for cases scheduled for detention and court appearances and/or hearings; testifies before court as to the recommendations required. Maintains written reports and daily chronological notes for each juvenile placed on probation. Conducts monthly random drug testing on juveniles. Works as liaison with the District Attorneys office and offers recommendations regarding court proceedings. Attends staff meetings and training conferences as required for maintenance of Juvenile Probation Officer Certification. Conduct training of staff in department and other Juvenile Probation departments. Participates in activities and duties related to emergency management during a local state of disaster as directed by appropriate county managers. Qualifications Bachelors Degree in Criminal Justice or other related field approved by the State of Texas. 1 year job related experience. Good computer, verbal and written communication skills; Good organizational skills, interpersonal skills and ability to complete assigned projects in a timely manner. Minimum 21 years of age; eligible to be Certified Juvenile Probation Officer. On-call 24 hours a day and subject to irregular work hours. SALARY RANGE: Professional Management Grade 9, $1,584.80 - $1,908.80 biweekly based on qualificationsCLOSING DATE: Upon filling position For certain positions requiring certification, state standards shall disqualify an applicant if their criminal history reveals: 1) A felony conviction against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years; a deferred adjudication for a felony against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 10 years or current felony probation or parole 2) A jailable misdemeanor conviction against the laws of this state, another state or the United States within the past 5 years; a deferred adjudication for a jailable misdemeanor against the laws of this state, another state, or the United States within the past 5 years or current misdemeanor probation or parole 3) Registered as a sex offender under Chapter 62, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure.
