Position Summary
The FJD is hiring a Judicial Tipstaff I for The Honorable Jennifer Schultz. The ideal candidate for this position is interested in the law and is looking for greater exposure to the functioning of the judiciary while they obtain their law degree. This position provides potential job growth opportunity and additional work responsibilities to include post-conviction review work, legal research, and drafting of opinions.
The Judicial Tipstaff I serves as a personal aide to the assigned member of judiciary in the Criminal Trial Division of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. Important aspect of the job involves assistance of courtroom operations, and performing various other duties as assigned.
The Tipstaff is directly responsible to and serves at the discretion of the appointing Judge.

Essential Functions
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all- inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
Provides all necessary logistical support for judge’s work in courtrooms.
Maintains chambers filing system
Manages judicial correspondence and other office paperwork
Searches for and studies legal records and documents to obtain data applicable to cases under consideration.
Assists judicial law clerks in setting up court matters and file preparation.
Legal research and writing projects available to an employee who is interested in receiving those additional assignments.
Performs related duties as required.

Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Demonstrated commitment to public interest is a plus.
Appropriate experience in the use of Windows Software applications.
Must successfully complete a criminal background investigation.
Ability to ambulate to and from the courtroom
Ability to lift and carry up to 35lbs.
Ability to perform the essential functions of a position in this class
Must work on site (not remote).
