Job Description
The FJD is hiring a Judicial Tipstaff I for The Honorable Kay Yu. The Judicial Tipstaff I serves as a personal aide to the assigned member of judiciary in the Civil Trail Division of the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. Important aspects of the job involve assistance to courtroom operations, ensuring dignity is provided in the courtroom and accompanying the appointing judge to all public functions and performing various other duties as assigned.
The Judicial Tipstaff is a confidential employee and serves at the discretion and pleasure of the judge.

Essential Functions
** The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all- inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.**
Provides all necessary logistical support for judge’s work in courtrooms.
Maintains chambers filing system
Manages judicial correspondence and other office paperwork
Searches for and studies legal records and documents to obtain data applicable to cases under consideration.
Assists judicial law clerks in setting up court matters and file preparation.
Legal research and writing projects available to an employee who is interested in receiving those additional assignments.
Performs related duties as required.

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a self-directed fashion.
Ability to learn and apply, within a reasonable timeframe, the components and functions of civil courtroom proceedings and related computer systems.
Ability to learn trial procedures, rules, and regulations required to facilitate court proceedings
Ability to follow written and oral directions and to communicate effectively.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the members of the judiciary, attorneys, associates, employees, and the general public.
Excellent analytical skills
Ability to research and analyze complex legal issues
Attention to detail and ability to work with accuracy
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and handle multiple tasks
Work-Life
Working hours are 40 hours per week. This is a full-time, in person position with the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania.
