Essential Functions Leads a crew of workers in operating equipment and performing maintenance work associated with various projects within an assigned department/division of the County. Provides direction, training, and assistance to employees; coordinates daily work activities; organizes and prioritizes workload; makes work assignments and evaluates work; monitors status of work; troubleshoots problem situations. Assists in ensuring adherence to established safety procedures; monitors work environment and use of safety equipment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; initiates any actions necessary to correct deviations; coordinates activities to maintain safety and traffic control at work sites, including flagging of traffic and setup of safety cones, barricades, and road/warning signs; reports accidents, injuries, and other incidents. Assists in coordinating, prioritizing, and overseeing projects; reviews or issues work orders; assists in determining and coordinating necessary equipment, materials, and manpower to conduct projects; monitors status of work in progress and inspects completed work; dispatches crew members, vehicles, or equipment to work sites as needed; reports damage/vandalism, potentially hazardous/dangerous situations, or other problems to supervisor; responds to problems or emergency situations. Monitors work conducted by contractors; inspects work to ensure quality and compliance with terms of contracts. Supervises and assists in performing various tasks involving aquatic control and maintenance canals, or ditches; conducts safety inspections; inspects pond pumps and maintains filters; mixes chemicals for application of aquatic herbicides and pesticides; loads chemicals and calibrates/maintains spray pumps; applies herbicides, pesticides, insecticides, fungicides, and germicides; controls vegetation in drainage system for maximum drainage; cuts/removes weeds, grass, cattails, or other vegetation around lake; trims palm trees. Supervises and assists in performing various tasks involving road/bridge maintenance or roadside maintenance projects; patches potholes in road surfaces; repairs roads, bridges, and rights-of-way with asphalt and lime rock; installs, repairs, replaces, and cleans out drainage pipes; creates and maintains roadside ditches/swales; builds, installs, and repairs catch basins, curbs, sidewalks, and bike paths; cuts driveways; repairs and maintains guardrails; paints guardrails, bridges, barricades, and road striping; repairs high-pressure hoses; clears/mows right-of-way, roadside ditches, shoulders, and medians; performs vegetation control tasks; cleans/sweeps intersections, roadways, sidewalks, bike paths, and other areas; picks up and disposes of accident debris, dead animals, litter, and other debris; reports hazardous roadway conditions. Transports, loads, and unloads equipment and materials used in projects; transports crew workers to/from work sites. Monitors inventory levels of supplies and materials; ensures availability of adequate supplies, tools, and materials to conduct work activities; initiates requests for new/replacement materials; obtains competitive bids and price quotes. Performs administrative tasks; reviews logs/forms completed by staff members; develops work schedules to ensure adequate coverage; reviews time cards and researches discrepancies; prepares payroll documents and forwards for payment. Prepares or completes various forms, reports, correspondence, daily activity logs, payroll documents, training records, accident reports, cash receipt reports, inspection forms, purchase requisitions, work orders, maintenance records, charts, meter test forms, backflow test reports, water loss reports, valve data sheets, sludge data, recycling reports, diagrams, graphs, time cards, leave requests, or other documents. Receives various forms, reports, correspondence, lists, schedules, work orders, time cards, leave requests, bids, quotes, delivery receipts, invoices, laboratory reports, technical studies, service/maintenance schedules, maintenance records, chemical charts, chemical labels, insecticide charts, operational manuals, material safety data sheets, diagrams, blueprints, construction drawings, building permits, maps, laws, policies, procedures, regulations, standards, directories, manuals, reference materials, or other documentation; reviews, completes, processes, forwards or retains as appropriate. Operates a personal computer as necessary to complete essential functions, to include the use of word processing, spreadsheet, utility location system, sewer viewing system, e mail, or other computer programs. Communicates with supervisor, other divisions, employees, contractors, developers, engineers, utility companies, vendors/suppliers, the public, outside agencies, and other individuals as needed to coordinate work activities, review status of work, exchange information, resolve problems, or give/receive advice/direction. Maintains a current knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, methods, and procedures; attends workshops and training sessions as appropriate. Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or GED; supplemented by vocational/technical training in general maintenance work, supplemented by one (1) year previous experience and/or training involving, road maintenance, equipment operation, and/or specialized work in area of assignment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License with any applicable endorsements and maintain eligibility requirements and endorsement(s) to drive a County vehicle as provided in CMA 5805. Must possess and maintain a valid Class A CDL with air brake and tanker endorsement. Must possess and maintain a valid IMSA Work Zone Safety certification, and Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Traffic Safety in the Work Area certification or have the ability to attain within six months from the date of hire.
