    Working hours are 40 hours per week. This is a full-time, in person position with the First Judicial District of Pennsylvania.

    Position Summary

    The Legal Clerk is an entry level clerical position where the incumbent processes legal documents for purposes of docketing their receipt. It differs from the nonlegal clerical classes by the constant work with legal documents and the degree of consequence of error and accountability involving the abstraction of pertinent information from legal documents in summary form to a docket which may serve as a basis for possible legal activity by counsel and the judiciary. Work is performed according to clearly defined rules and procedures, under direct supervision, in a training mode.

    Essential Functions

    ** The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.**

    • Perform data entry into the criminal case management system in a courtroom and/ or office atmosphere.
    • Determine proper judicial assignment and schedule court listings accordingly.
    • Communicate scheduled dates to attached parties, judiciary, and their staff.
    • Respond to inquiries via email, in person, and over the phone.
    • Coordinate with other departments when needed to ensure proper case scheduling.
    • Track and maintain statistics daily.
    • Accept, review and process filings and judicial court orders.
    • Review documents for errors and serve as a quality control check.
    • Perform search inquiries using various computer programs and applications to ascertain necessary information.
    • Label and scan documents as necessary. `

    Performs other duties as required.

    Standard office/courtroom conditions.

    Competencies, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Considerable knowledge of the English language and grammar usage.
    • Ability to learn, understand and comply with applicable rules, regulations and procedures surrounding job duties and responsibilities.
    • Ability to effectively communicate information both orally and in writing.
    • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, members of the judiciary, court and departmental administrators, and the public.
    • Ability to work with teams as well as independently with little oversight.
    • Basic knowledge and experience using Microsoft applications – Outlook, Word, and Excel.
    • Ability to learn additional system applications as needed to perform tasks.
    • Strong organization and communication skills.

    Qualifications

    1. High school diploma or equivalent and one to two years of progressively responsible clerical experience processing legal documents.

    OR

    1. An equivalent combination of acceptable experience and training that provide the necessary characteristics required to perform the essential functions in this class.

    2. Extensive knowledge and experience using computers and Windows applications; Outlook, Word, and Excel.

    3. Successful completion of criminal background check.

    4. After meeting minimum standards, successful completion of a panel review and interview process.

    5. Ability to perform the essential functions of a position in this class.

    6. Must work in person (not remote).

    7. Full-time On-Site position.

    Salary Range: $39,301 - $42,718
