Established in 1974, LSC operates as an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation that promotes equal access to justice and provides grants for high-quality civil legal assistance. LSC currently funds 133 independent, nonprofit legal aid organizations with nearly 800 offices throughout the nation. The Office of Government Relations & Public Affairs (GRPA) is responsible for managing LSCs communications and relationship with Congress, the Executive Branch, the media, and the general public. The primary objectives of the internship are for the intern to: 1. Understand the relationship between legislative affairs and communications. 2. Acquire a sound understanding of how the federal appropriations process works. The interns hours will be up to 20 hours per week. The internship will run from January through May 2019. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The interns principle duties and responsibilities include: 1. Respond to congressional inquiries; 2. Track legislation and monitor congressional activity; 3. Research and write materials for congressional staff and LSC publications; 4. Update databases; and 5. Other research projects as assigned. Qualifications: General: LSC is accepting applications from current undergraduate, graduate, and law school students. Ideal candidates can work independently, have excellent research and writing skills, and an interest in public service, government or congressional affairs, and public policy. Specific/Technical: The intern needs to have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office projects (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint). HOURLY RATE: This position is paid hourly. Hourly rate is based on class year: $13.25-$15.90 for undergraduates and $16.0-$18.90 for graduate/law students.
