    COUNTY URBAN FORESTER JOB DESCRIPTION The Department of Building & Development, Natural Resources Division, is seeking candidates for a full-time, customer service driven professional urban forester/arborist position. Responsibilities include providing review of land development applications regarding issues including screening/buffering and landscaping issues, the viability of tree conservation areas, preservation of individual trees, reforestation of riparian buffers and upland areas, and any other proffers regarding trees or forests. Works with the public and other county, state and federal agencies to promote urban tree planting projects, educational forums and other public outreach. Represents the County as the subject matter expert in field of arboriculture, natural resource management, tree preservation and protection, riparian and reforestation initiatives, through committees, forums and public outreach. Inspects construction sites for compliance with approved landscaping plans. Evaluates and responds to complaints and inquiries with appropriate action to resolve. Develops and recommends draft revisions to the Facilities Standard Manual and County Ordinances. Must exhibit the ability to work independently; excellent organizational skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with development industry, the public, and other county, state and federal agencies. Possess excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills and a thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of urban forestry/arboricultural practices. Experience with urban tree issues, the ability to diagnose and document hazard tree conditions, familiarity with construction plans and understanding of the impacts of development on mature trees are all necessary. JOB REQUIREMENTS Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelors Degree in Forestry, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Horticulture, Plant Science or related field and three years of related experience. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Must have or obtain ISA Certified Arborist or ISA Board Certified Master Arborist within 6 months of employment. Must be able to work in possible adverse weather conditions and on varying types of terrain. This position is expected to attend some night and weekend meetings. POST CONDITIONAL OFFER CONTINGENCIES Candidate must agree to criminal history and driving record background checks. Valid drivers license must be maintained per Human Resources' policy.
