SUPERVISION RECEIVED Works under the supervision of a Legal Assistant Supervisor, who assigns work, sets goals, and reviews work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with department policies and goals. Typical Duties - Duties include, but are not limited to the following Phone and walk-in contacts Receive information Receive and handle correspondence Answer questions using computer information Refer calls Explain policies and procedures to public Hand out discovery, cash handling/Teller POS, data entry of discovery slips Maintain and keep death reports up to date, route death reports, handle Medical Legal Death Investigator electronic reports and manage agency requests. Processes no-action dispositions and route to Oregon State Police. Backup to Discovery: Operates copy machine and CD duplication machines. Orders, retrieves and copies electronic discovery. Miscellaneous projects Outgoing mail - order supplies and sort, bundle and prepare for daily pick up Back up for incoming US/Interagency mail processing Pull and file DA files Backup for the go-list Requirements for the Position EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING Graduation from high school, preferable supplemented by secretarial training courses; AND Two (2) years of experience in office and secretarial work; OR Any satisfactory equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience relevant to the position. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS This position requires possession of, or obtain within 30 days of hire, Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) certification. Must pass a criminal history background investigation, which includes fingerprinting; however, conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual for this classification. This is a safety sensitive/special needs position. Final candidates selected for this position will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen, including testing for marijuana.
