Assistant Attorney General, Trial Division Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General - Boston, MA Full-time, Contract Assistant Attorney General Government Bureau/Trial Division The Trial Division defends suits brought against state agencies, officials, and employees who are sued in the context of their agency duties. The Division also initiates affirmative litigation on behalf of state agencies when such litigation is in the public interest and has significant monetary value or raises significant legal or policy issues. Cases range from simple to multi-million dollar cases with complex fact patterns and legal issues. Duties and Responsibilities: Representation and defense of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, its agencies, and employees in a wide variety of civil lawsuits, including tort, contract, eminent domain, employment, and civil rights cases. Maintain an active case load, including assuming responsibility for drafting pleadings, conducting discovery, taking and defending depositions, preparing and arguing dispositive motions, and trying cases in the superior and federal courts. Job Qualifications: Strong background in all aspects of civil litigation, including complex litigation and eDiscovery, and experience managing a large and varied caseload are required. Strong oral and written communication skills are also required. At least three to five years' relevant civil litigation experience preferred. Prior legal experience in at least one of the following substantive areas is preferred: tort, contracts, land use, eminent domain, civil rights, or employment matters. Seeking individuals who are highly motivated and who want to work in a fast-paced, high-volume public-sector law office. Valid Massachusetts driving license is required. Individual must be a member of the Massachusetts bar and the federal bar for the USDC of Massachusetts.
