The Department manages 34 facilities including community and neighborhood recreation centers, senior centers, and indoor and outdoor aquatic facilities and provides thousands of programs such as out-of-school activities, aquatics, classes, youth and adult sports programs and leagues, senior programs, and therapeutic recreation that enhance the quality of life for participants of all ages, cultures, and abilities. The Department of Recreation is nationally recognized for its excellence in the provision of facilities and programs. The employee will be responsible for professional work involving planning, organizing, administering, coordinating, and facilitating a variety of community and specialized recreational program activities of limited scope, size, and complexity in a community recreation center. Duties include: o scheduling and monitoring utilization of a community center and its equipment by community groups and individuals o ensuring compliance with the rules on the use of the facility and equipment o developing and conducting surveys o developing and implementing program activities to meet community needs or special interest group needs o recruiting, training, supervising and recommending placement of seasonal staff and volunteers o participating in the planning and execution of recreational program activities o maintaining scheduled use of the facility using ACTIVE software o maintaining active contacts with community groups, organizations, and individuals o repairing records and advising supervisor on personnel fees o adhering to assigned budget, tracking spending and maintaining related records o assisting the Recreation Specialist in sustaining an active and productive Center Advisory Committee This position requires the employee to work evenings and weekends as part of their normal work schedule. Minimum Qualifications Experience: One (1) year of recreation work experience involving planning, organizing, and directing recreational activities or special interest recreation program activities/services. Education: Bachelor's degree in recreation or other related field. Equivalency: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted. Preferred Criteria The applications of those individuals meeting the minimum qualifications will be reviewed to determine the extent, relevancy of training, and experience in the following areas: Experience developing and administering diverse, high quality recreational activities for children, youth, adults, and senior adults. Experience and knowledge of recreation methods, procedures, practices, and regulations regarding Center operations, programs, and services. Experience working in a community center or other recreational facility. Experience marketing recreational programs and communicating recreational activities and events through various medium. Experience using Microsoft Office Suite and ACTIVE or other database software applications.
