POSITION REPORTING: Supervisor, Environmental Field Services SUMMARY: An
Environmental Health Specialist will provide inspections, enforcement
services, and education for a broad range of environmental health
programs to ensure compliance and uniformity under the Montgomery County
Public Health Code and other statutes, regulations and ordinances.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
Environmental Health Responsibilities: * Conduct regulatory inspections
required by the Montgomery County Public Health Code. (Food facilities,
public bathing places, mobile home parks, camps, schools, etc.) * Issues
official notices of corrective action and follow-up to ensure
compliance. * Ensures inspection documentation is recorded accurately in
the Digital Health Department (DHD) software system. * Manage and
maintain territory inspection schedule. * Investigate complaints
regarding invertebrate vectors, rodents, environmental hazards and
nuisances. * Conduct environmental inspections of food- and water-borne
illness investigations; collects evidence and samples of food, water and
other materials, as required. Flexible and able to work extended working
hours, which may include weekends and/or holidays as necessary *
Required to be on-call * Other related activities as required General
Knowledge and skills: * Strong computer, oral and written communication
skills. * Ability to communicate effectively and maintain good working
relationships with others. * Duties require travel throughout the
County; must have reliable means of transportation and a valid drivers
license QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an

Bachelors degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or related
subject area. Must have thirty science credits with two years
experience, OR relevant experience in the field of environmental health
services. * Must be computer literate with recent experience using a
computer * Good inter-personal, oral and written communications skills
are required * Must be accurate, detail-oriented and well organized *
Must project a professional demeanor, at all times * Ability to operate
a variety of office equipment * This position requires a security
background check. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here

and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this
job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and depth
perception. Other physical requirements in the field include long
periods of prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, driving and
moderate to heavy lifting (approximately 40 - 50 pounds). Also possible
extended periods of standing, walking, bending and kneeling outside in
excessive heat during inspections/investigations. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The

the work environment is usually moderate. While conducting inspections
and investigations the work environment includes field work and possible
