    Weights and Measures Agriculture Inspection Specialist II Salary $18.33 Hourly Location See job description, NE Job Type PERM FULL TIME Department Department of Agriculture Job Number 01802129 Closing 1/11/2019 11:59 PM Central Description This position covers several counties in the Panhandle portion of Nebraska. The person in the position ensures equality in the market place between the buyer and seller of commodities bought or sold by weight, measure, or count through inspections and the enforcement of the provisions of the Nebraska Weights and Measures Act and Regulations. The first couple weeks of training will be done in Lincoln NE, and then will be conducted throughout the counties in the area assigned for 2-3 week intervals. Transportation and lodging will be arranged and paid for by the agency. Candidate will be required to work from a home office and will preferably reside in the community/county located in their assigned area in one of the eleven counties in the Nebraska panhandle. (40) Hours per week. Work Week is Monday through Sunday. Examples of Work Conducts Inspections daily of commercial retail fuel dispensers, oil meters, herbicide meters, loading rack meters, grocery store scales, vehicle scales, livestock scales, and railroad scales. Drive a pickup or a 55,000 G.V.W.R. Large Scale Truck to each location to conduct inspections. Operates an articulating crane to move 1000 pound block weights. Conducts Net Weights compliance inspections at business that retail, manufacturer, or distribute consumer and non-consumer packages. Conduct and complete all inspections electronically, reports all times daily and weekly using the Employee Reporting System. Collects fees and late fees. Maintains all equipment. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications / Requirements REQUIREMENTS: Post high school coursework/training in agriculture, plant/animal or natural sciences, or other program related field OR a vocation certificate in electrical, mechanical, engineering or other program related field. AND Two years experience working in agriculture, with experience in conducting animal inspections; plant inspections/identifications; insect identification; working with livestock; working with scales, mechanical, or electrical equipment; or other program related functions. PREFERRED: A Commercial Driver's License is required, or the applicant must obtain a six month CDL learners permit during the initial six month probationary period and the applicant must possess the CDL endorsement by the end of the original six month probationary period. Residence in one of the counties within coverage area is preferred. OTHER: Regular and reliable attendance is required.
