    Forensic Scientist Salary $24.55 Hourly Location Lincoln, NE Job Type PERM FULL TIME Department Health & Human Services Department Job Number 25256006 Closing 1/4/2019 11:59 PM Central Description 3701 S 14th St, Lincoln, NE 68502 M-F, 8am-5pm Examples of Work Under administrative direction, this position will work with the DHHS Public Health Environmental Lab and various government agencies. Duties include analysis of blood alcohol content, preserving lab records and evidence and testifying as an expert witness in court. Responsible for presenting and conducting themselves in a professional manner at all times when representing the laboratory. Overnight travel is required. Qualifications / Requirements REQUIREMENTS: Bachelors or post-baccalaureate degree in the fields of physical science, natural science, forensic science, criminalistics, or other fields, where specific scientific coursework in job-related specialties has been completed. PREFERRED: Masters or Doctorate Degree in Forensic Chemistry, Chemistry, or Medical Technology. Minimum of one year of practical lab experience with gas chromatography, bloodborne pathogens, and performing forensic chemistry testing in a laboratory or educational setting. Also, have experience with Excel and use of LIMS OTHER: A valid Driver's License or authorized independent transportation is required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of: the principles of chemistry and forensics related to the work assigned; laboratory procedures, analysis methods, and material/substances used; the methods to illustrate information and support court testimony; the practices and protocols of the forensic science and organic work assigned. Skill in: the selection, use, and care of laboratory equipment/instrumentation and material/chemicals used in conducting analyses of substances submitted. Ability to: follow laboratory procedures and conduct tests using laboratory equipment/instrumentation and material/chemicals to obtain results; observe color, small details, and reactions; interpret observations and record results of analysis of substances submitted for examination and arrive at conclusions; communicate technical explanations and information to others in person and by telephone, email and correspondence; compose correspondence using correct grammar, punctuation and spelling; comprehend and apply knowledge from scientific and technical journals and textbooks; relay knowledge gained to co-workers to recognize and solve problems; formulate legally valid interpretations and conclusions on the basis of tests made and testify and defend these in courts as an expert witness; pass moot court/proficiency tests in the assigned forensic science field.
