Under general supervision, works within established procedures and guidelines to ensure compliance with Nebraska tax laws. Work is performed in one or more of the following categories: taxpayer assistance, collections, record review and analysis, and inspections. Examples of Work 1. Answers simple to complex taxpayer and taxpayer representative questions regarding Nebraska tax program regulations, rulings, statutes, forms, and processing procedures as well as simple or complex questions regarding a taxpayer's specific tax return, account, refund, tax liability, or licensing application. 2. Assists and educates taxpayers in the preparation (electronically and by paper) of tax return and payment of taxes by phone, mail, and personal contact. 3. Contacts new licensees by phone to assist and educate them in complying with the tax regulations and filings regarding their particular type of businesses. 4. Initiates adjustments to tax returns or taxpayer accounts to resolve issues which may result in the issuance of a balance due notice or a refund to the taxpayer. 5. Perform special duties as assigned by the work leader or supervisor. 6. Work as a team member in the Department's phone bank. Qualifications / Requirements REQUIREMENTS: Associate's Degree in business; OR Two years of experience with tax return preparation, business ownership and operation, account research and analysis, or interpretation and application of policies, laws, rules or regulations. PREFERRED: Fluently speaks Spanish OTHER: Work various shifts which include 7:30 AM to 4 PM, 8 AM to 4:30 PM and 8:30 AM to 5 PM. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of: Mathematics and/or accounting ; business operations and practices; governmental or administrative rules, regulations, statutes, and guidelines. Ability to: Effectively communicate to convey clear and concise information; use a variety of office equipment; analyze and verify tax data/information from various sources and computer applications; work independently in a team environment; relate effectively with people representing a wide variety of backgrounds; comprehend various individual and business tax programs; exercise limited independent judgment and decisiveness; handle occasional confrontational individuals within a business setting.
