    LOCATION: Northwest Campus, 3901 Cliff Crenshaw, Corpus Christi, TX 78410

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

    This position requires helping children develop socially, intellectually, physically, and emotionally in a stable learning environment through a daily curriculum plan. Working hours for the full day program are Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    Maintains open lines of communications with immediate supervisor, parents, and all Head Start Staff.

    Assists teacher in having classroom materials ready at all times.

    Assists teachers in writing/implementing daily lesson plans inside/outside the classrooms.

    Assists teacher in documenting children's files daily on class attendance, nutrition monitoring, health monitoring, etc.

    Reports to teacher his/her observations on individual children and reinforces classroom and environmental safety.

    Assumes role of teacher when teacher is out.

    Involves parents in educational activities to enhance their role as the principal influence on the child's education and development.

    Provides materials appropriate to the child's age and level of development.

    Assists children through regular periods of physical activity using materials and experiences designed to develop muscles, eye-hand coordination, body awareness, and rhythm & movement.

    Serves the cultural relevant background of the children using classroom materials, activities and related languages.

    Helps Teacher coordinate / schedule center field trips when requested related to curriculum unit, and supervises children on/off the bus.

    Picks up children from home and takes them to the center and vice versa, and supervises children on/off the bus.

    Is required to abide by all rules and regulations as outlined in the Head Start Education Program Manual.

    Assists Teacher in completing all developmental screening.

    Assists Teacher and Family Advocate in maintaining child's daily attendance.

    Promotes a high self-esteem, is a good role model, and follows agency's behavior management system and code of ethics.

    Assists teacher with morning inspections--keeping children clean and well groomed, serving meals and snacks, preparing for rest time, and assists with toilet training.

    Participates in Annual Community Assessment.

    Participates in Pre-Service training once a year and on-going in-service training as required by the program.

    Informs teacher of needed supplies for ordering and inspects storage for safety compliance.

    Assists Teacher in completing monthly thematic bulletin boards in the classrooms.

    Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor, Site Based Manager, Education Coordinator, or Head Start Director.

    NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    Answers telephones and relays messages.

    Works at Head Start Graduation Ceremonies and various social events.

    Attends cluster meetings and training workshops.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

    Normal physical activity includes occasional sitting, frequent standing, and walking in a usual workday.

    Requires occasional pulling out & pushing in of drawers and other objects with occasional bending, stooping, squatting, crawling, kneeling, and reaching above shoulder level.

    Requires occasional lifting and carrying of heavy objects such as boxes of supplies and children.

    Requires use of the five senses (hearing, seeing, touching, smelling, and tasting) to perform various job duties and in dealing with staff, clients, and outside.

    Requires employee to use hands, arms, feet, legs, neck and head while performing Agency tasks.

    Requires employee to occasionally crawl and twist in performing duties.

    Requires frequent speaking and listening abilities with staff, co-workers, parents, supervisor and parents/volunteers--must be able to hear a child cry out when in pain, injured, or ill.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

    Demonstrates ability to read and write, keeps routine records, follows written and oral instructions, and files alphabetically and numerically.

    Assists Teacher in the direction, control, or planning of an activity.

    Reports to the Site Based Manager following the bus route, for daily assignment, if applicable.

    Makes judgments or decisions based on sensory or judgmental criteria--relies on one or more of the five physical senses.

    Deals with people beyond giving and receiving instructions--is courteous, cooperative, conscientious, and tactful in dealing with employees and the general public.

    Performs job duties in a precise, thorough, and meticulous manner.

    Able to handle various projects at the same time in an effective manner.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Requires GED or High School diploma and a CDA in addition to continuing formal education when possible.

    Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug test.

    Must successfully complete and maintain the following examinations, permits, and certifications:

    Within two (2) weeks of employment

    Food Handler's permit - Renewed every two years by expiration date

    First Aid certification - Renewed every two (2) years

    CPR Infant/Child certification - Renewed every two years by expiration date

    Requires 24 hours of training annually to meet TDPRS requirements.

    Current, valid Texas driver's license preferred.

    Dresses in appropriate attire with a neat personal appearance.

    Proof of work eligibility must be provided.
