The Orange County Corrections Department is seeking highly committed, professional and honest candidates to fill the position of Correctional Investigator I. This position conducts investigations and inquiries of alleged acts of misconduct of Corrections Department employees relative to established County and Departmental policies and procedures. In addition, this position conducts inquiries into complaints received internally and externally relative to staff misconduct, and violations of Departmental policies and procedures. Work is performed with independence under general guidance of the Correctional Investigator II. Work is reviewed through conferences, records, reports and results achieved. Representative Duties * Conducts investigations and inquiries to determine whether the allegations in a complaints occurred. * Assists with of Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) incident reviews and investigations. * Interviews complainants, witnesses and employees to gather evidence and facts related to alleged violations of Corrections Department policies and procedures. * Analyzes complaints to identify critical issues and develops an investigative plan to determine appropriate course of action to conduct the investigation or inquiry. * Works with and has direct contact with incarcerated inmates, and offenders who are under community supervision. * Monitors mail and telephone calls of inmates, alleged to be engaging in criminal activities while incarcerated in custody. * Presents written findings in clear concise and impartial reports. * Participates in the employment background and neighborhood screening process of potential new hires. * Attends training(s) and staff meetings as required. * Performs other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Psychology, Sociology or a related field and one year of responsible related investigative experience in the Criminal Justice field. Or Associates degree or 60 credit hours from an accredited institution and three years of responsible related investigative experience in the Criminal Justice field Must possess and maintain a State of Florida Correctional Officer certification within one year of employment Must possess and maintain a valid State of Florida Drivers license by date of hire Must not have been convicted or plead no contest to a felony Must be able to be on-call during all shifts, weekends and holidays, as needed Must provide own transportation to be utilized daily in the performance of assigned duties Effective communicate skills both orally and in writing Preferences Investigative experience in Internal Affairs, Fraud, Family Services, Security, Professional Standards, Government Compliance and/or Public Safety-related investigations. This position is a certified, Non-Collective Bargaining Unit position. Selected candidate must obtain and possess a State of Florida Correctional Officer certification within one year of employment. Persons with a current law enforcement certification will be required to obtain Corrections Certification through attendance of a Correctional Crossover Academy within one year of employment. Management reserves the right to create an eligibility pool that may be used to fill future Correctional Investigator I vacancies for up to twelve (12) months from the end of the process.
