    Position Description

    About the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces (USCAAF):

    The United States Court of Appeals for the Armed Forces (USCAAF) is the highest civilian court responsible for reviewing the most serious court-martial convictions of the U.S. Armed Forces. Our judges are appointed by the President and confirmed by the Senate, and our decisions are subject only to review by the Supreme Court of the United States. This position is located within the Docket Room, an integral part of the Office of the Clerk of the Court, dedicated to the efficient and accurate administration of justice.

    Position Overview:

    We are seeking a meticulous and detail-oriented Paralegal Specialist to join our Docket Room team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the complete lifecycle of cases filed with the Court, from initial receipt and analysis of pleadings to the final archival of records. You will serve as a primary point of contact for appellate counsel and court representatives, ensuring all filings comply with the Court's rules and procedures. This position is essential to maintaining the integrity and efficiency of the Court's docket and records systems in a high-tempo environment where accuracy is paramount.

    Primary Duties:

    • Review all legal pleadings for compliance with UCMJ and Court rules
    • Manage case information and track deadlines in the C-Track docketing system.
    • Act as a procedural liaison to appellate counsel regarding findings
    • Oversee the Court's record management and archival process

    Position Duties/Responsibilities

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

    • In-depth knowledge of the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ), Manual for Courts-Martial (MCM), and the USCAAF Rules of Practice and Procedure
    • Proficiency with legal case management database systems (experience with C-Track is highly desirable)
    • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and electronic legal research tools
    • Strong understanding of records management principles, particularly as they apply to legal and government records
    • Excellent analytical skills with a high degree of attention to detail and accuracy
    • Ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines, and solve complex problems in a high-pressure environment
    • Superior communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to be persuasive and professional when interacting with counsel, judges, court staff, and the public
    • Proven judgment and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information
