  • Responsibilities

    Positions are located at the Pentagon (Arlington, VA) in the Pentagon Police Division; the Herbert R. Temple Jr. Army National Guard Readiness Center (Arlington, VA), and Mark Center (Alexandria, VA) in the National Capital Region Division; and Raven Rock Mountain Complex (Adams County, PA), which is part of the Pentagon Reservation and falls under the responsibility of PFPA.

    Incumbents typical work assignments may include the following:

    • Enforce local, state, and Federal laws and regulations; and enforce DoD policies and regulations relating to law enforcement and security.
    • Physically protect designated facilities (buildings and grounds), employees, visitors, and staff from threats of crime and disruption; preserves law and order; and serves as a deterrent to crime and other violations of law, rules, and regulations.
    • Perform protective services, security, and access control for the Pentagon and other buildings in the National Capital Region occupied by PFPA employees, government equipment, and property.
    • Make arrests, prepare reports and testify in court.
    • Interact with legal counsel and coordinate with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies.

    You may qualify at the AD-05 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:

    A. At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least AD-04 or GS equivalent level that demonstrates knowledge of a body of basic or commonly used laws, rules, regulations, procedures, and operating methods and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force, in the military, in loss prevention, or as a security officer at airports, buildings, and other structures.

    B. Completion of at least four years of education above the high school level leading to a bachelor's degree in police science or a comparable degree program related to police work. Such education must be obtained from an accredited college or university. (Transcripts will be used to verify education). Comparable degrees may include but are not limited to Anthropology, Community Policing, Computer Engineering, Corrections, Criminal Justice, Criminal Psychology, Criminal Law, Criminology, Cybersecurity, Emergency Management, Ethics in Criminal Justice, Forensic Accounting, Forensic Science, Homeland Security, Juvenile Justice, Psychology, Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, Research Methods, Security and Policy Administration, Social Work, Systems Engineering, or Sociology.

    C. A combination of specialized experience as described in letter A above and post high school education as described in letter B above that totals 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. (Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours can be credited under this response. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience).
