    Basic Qualifications

    Natural Resources Management & Biological Sciences

    • Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position OR
    • Combination of education & experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as above, plus appropriate experience or additional education

    Microbiology

    • Degree: microbiology; or biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included at least 20 semester hours in microbiology & other subjects related to the study of microorganisms, & 20 semester hours in the physical and mathematical sciences combining course work in organic chemistry or biochemistry, physics, & college algebra, or their equivalent OR
    • Combination of education & experience: courses equivalent to a major in microbiology, biology, chemistry, or basic medical science that included courses as above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. For positions at GS-9 that involve a substantial amount of work in a specific specialized area or applied field of microbiology, at least 6 months of the experience must either have been in the appropriate area of specialization or applied field of microbiology, or have direct application in the area for which the applicant is being considered.

    For the GS-11 and higher grade levels of such specialized positions, the experience must have been sufficiently specialized to insure adequate familiarity with the area of specialization or applied field of microbiology, or have direct application in the area for which the applicant is being considered.

    General Medical & Healthcare

    Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree: major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

    Mathematical Statistics

    • Degree: that included 24 semester hours of mathematics and statistics, of which at least 12 semester hours were in mathematics and 6 semester hours were in statistics OR
    • Combination of education & experience: at least 24 semester hours of mathematics & statistics, including at least 12 hours in mathematics & 6 hours in statistics, as above, plus appropriate experience or additional education

    Statistics

    • Degree: that included 15 semester hours in statistics (or in mathematics and statistics, provided at least 6 semester hours were in statistics), & 9 additional semester hours in one or more of the following: physical or biological sciences, medicine, education, or engineering; or in the social sciences including demography, history, economics, social welfare, geography, international relations, social or cultural anthropology, health sociology, political science, public administration, psychology, etc. Credit toward meeting statistical course requirements is given for courses in which 50 percent of the course content appears to be statistical methods, e.g., courses that included studies in research methods in psychology or economics such as tests & measurements or business cycles, or courses in methods of processing mass statistical data such as tabulating methods or electronic data processing OR
    • Combination of education & experience: courses as above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. The experience should have included a full range of professional statistical work such as (a) sampling, (b) collecting, computing, and analyzing statistical data, & (c) applying statistical techniques such as measurement of central tendency, dispersion, skewness, sampling error, simple & multiple correlation, analysis of variance, & tests of significance

    Computer Science

    Bachelor's degree in computer science or bachelor's degree with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, & computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. All academic degrees & course work must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

    Data Science

    • Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position OR
    • Combination of education & experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
    • In addition to Basic Qualifications, Minimum Qualifications must be met:
    • GS-7: At least 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement OR 1 year of specialized experience to at least GS-5
    • GS-9: At least 2 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-7
    • GS-11: At least 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-9
    • **GS-12 & above:**At least 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level

    Physician - Medical Officer positions: www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/0600/medical-officer-series-0602/ Degree: Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine or equivalent from a school in the United States or Canada. This degree must have been accredited by the Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association; Association of American Medical Colleges; Liaison Committee on Medical Education; Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation of the American Osteopathic Association, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

    Foreign Medical School: A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from a foreign medical school must provide education and medical knowledge equivalent to accredited schools in the United States. Evidence of equivalency to accredited schools in the United States is demonstrated by permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates, a fifth pathway certificate for Americans who completed premedical education in the United States and graduate education in a foreign country, or successful completion of the U.S. Medical Licensing Examination.

    Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, & unrestricted license or registration as a Physician from a State, District of Columbia, Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

    Graduate Training: Subsequent to obtaining a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree, must have at least 1 year of supervised experience providing direct service in a clinical setting, i.e., a 1-year internship or the first year of a residency program in a hospital or institution accredited for such training. Graduate training programs include only those internship, residency, & fellowship programs that are approved by accrediting bodies recognized within the United States or Canada.

    Additional Requirements for GS-13 & above:

    GS-13: 3 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience & training
    GS-14: 4 years of graduate training in the specialty of the position to be filled or equivalent experience & training

    Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work. Credit is given for all qualifying experience.

    Education

    This position is being filled through Direct Hire Authority for this occupation and is open to all US Citizens.
