  • Responsibilities

    The overall objective of the Structural Fitter 1st class position is to measure, cut, align, and fit complex fabricated steel parts of our building products per drawing specification, and ensure accuracy and compliance with quality standards.

    Support the effort of being a best‐in‐class manufacturer through the fabrication of high quality products that exceed our clients’ expectations by:  Applying advanced technical and mathematical knowledge to review engineering drawings, determine requirements and specifications, and calculate and measure cut lengths needed for the fabrication of structural steel parts.  Expertly operating a cutting torch, track torch, plasma cutter, band‐saw, grinder and other fabricating equipment to cut steel parts as required, and to clean and prepare the surface for fitting and welding.  Following blueprints and layout specifications to position, align and fit complex structural steel parts with the use of braces, jacks, clamps or supports.  Proficiently squaring and tack welding parts into position in preparation for quality welding.  Ensuring quality and efficiency by completing the job task faster than estimated hours.  Assist in training of 2nd and 3rd class structural fitters.  Maintains a safe, clean well‐organized work area.

This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.  Production and Processing: Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.  Design: Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principals involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.  Technical Experience: Ability to read and process drawings and cut‐sheet packages. Proficient in measuring, squaring and math skills. Also, an in‐depth knowledge of AWS D1.1  Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance. Tools include: tape measure, level (6 ft and 2 ft), square and transit, ratchet hoist, hydraulic jack, combination square, torch, hammer, center punch, plasma cutter, band‐saw and grinders.  Computers and Electronics: Knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications and programming such as Microsoft Office Business Suite; knowledge of accounting software such as AS 400.  Verbal & Written Communication Skills: This position requires basic skills (Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.)  Math Skills: This position requires intermediate skills (calculates measurements, fractions, proportions, area, etc.)

    Arm‐Hand Steadiness: The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.  Visualization: The ability to imagine how something will look after it is moved around or when its parts are moved or rearranged.  Manual Dexterity: The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects. Physical Demands/

    Required Experience

    Qualifications Education/Certifications  High School Diploma/GED Experience  4‐5 years of experience structural fitting required preferably offshore buildings.  At least two years of experience in steel building fabrication, preferred.
