Works in a lead capacity in a specialized environment to perform
moderately difficult specialized technical/clerical work in the areas of
Jail Processing (Classification, Intake & Release). Pay Grade: 43
Minimum Qualifications 100% - 1. Three (3) years' experience processing
inmates in an institutionalized environment; and 2. Graduation from
accredited college with a bachelors degree in psychology, sociology or
closely related field; OR 3. An equivalent combination of education
and/or experience. 4. PROOF OF EDUCATION, TRAINING AND/OR EXPERIENCE IS
REQUIRED. Duties and Responsibilities 1. Reviews, analyzes and
interprets documents regarding the classification and housing of
inmates. 2. Assesses and groups inmates for the purpose of designating
security and custody levels. 3. Designates inmates for the appropriate
housing placement within the jail facility. 4. Collects and enters data,
such as work history, school, and criminal background, habits, and
version of crime committed and works to ensure accuracy and
completeness. 5. Analyzes prisoners social attitude, mental capacity,
and physical capabilities and makes decision based on data obtained in
order to assign them to the appropriate incarcerated level. 6.
Coordinates functions within the release area of the Shelby County
Sheriffs Office Jail Division. 7. Reviews and processes documents
generated by federal, state and local agencies pertaining to inmates
detained in the Shelby County Jail. 8. Researches, analyzes and
interprets legal documents as it pertains to inmate sentencing. 9.
Compiles related information and makes recommendations in accordance
with established guidelines as to the status of inmates. 10. Analyzes
and interprets computer data that is generated from a variety of
computer systems such as (JMS) Jail Management System, (JSS) Justice
Support System, (TOMIS) Tennessee Offenders Information System and
(NCIC) National Crime Information Center. 11. Prepares daily and weekly
reports for court monitors. 12. Makes follow-up calls to Court Clerks
Office, Attorney General Office, Department of Corrections and Other
federal, state and local agencies when dealing with discrepancies on
sentencing orders and/or releases. 13. Performs other related duties as
required or directed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities KSAs and Others -
- Knowledge of the methods and techniques of assessing and interpreting
court documents. 2. Knowledge of legal methodology and processing cases.
- Ability to write reports. 4. Ability to work with various support
agencies in exchange for information and data. 5. Possess good public
relation skills with clients, co-workers, and inmates. Special
Requirements 1. Must be able to work various shifts, weekends and
holidays, as required. 2. Must be able to work in a secured jail
environment. 3. Must pass a criminal history background check.
