Questions MENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN TRAINEE: Under immediate supervision,
receives training and performs beginning level duties in the care and
treatment of patients who are developmentally disabled or mentally ill
at Choate Mental Health & Developmental Center. MENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN
I: Under immediate supervision of the Living Unit Supervisor on the Dual
Diagnosis Unit (as Alternate Program Group Leader) assists the assigned
Program Group Leader in the implementation of procedures and
interventions designed by the Interdisciplinary Team to help individuals
with developmental disabilities achieve greater mental, physical, and
social development. Participates in the evaluation/reassessment process
by reporting/recording specified data to be collected; assures the
principles of protecting rights, normalization, age-appropriateness, and
least restriction are utilized. Assures compliance to Facility/Division
philosophy, programs, procedures, and practices. Implements
procedures/techniques to ensure service environment is maintained in a
comfortable, attractive, safe, and sanitary manner. MENTAL HEALTH
TECHNICIAN II: Under direct supervision of the Living Unit Supervisor on
the Dual Diagnosis Unit, performs duties as a Program Group Leader,
ensuring implementation of procedures and interventions designed by the
Interdisciplinary Team to help individuals within assigned program
groups achieve greater mental, physical, and social development.
Observes recipient behavior and participates in the
evaluation/reassessment process by reporting/recording information
observed. Ensures the principles of protecting rights, normalization,
age-appropriateness, and least restriction are utilized. Ensures
compliance to Facility/Division philosophy, programs, and practices.
Implements procedures/techniques to ensure service environment is
maintained in a comfortable, attractive, safe, and sanitary manner.
Minimum Requirements: MENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN TRAINEE: Requires
elementary knowledge of environmental hygiene and health care. Requires
ability to participate in and successfully complete a comprehensive
training program. Requires ability to adjust to and function effectively
in an environment with developmentally disabled individuals. MENTAL
HEALTH TECHNICIAN I: Requires knowledge, skill and mental development
equivalent to completion of high school. Requires successful completion
of a comprehensive training program at the Mental Health Technician
Trainee level. Requires working knowledge of nursing care, first aid and
personal and environmental hygiene. Requires elementary knowledge of the
cause, nature, and treatment of mental illness or developmental
disabilities. MENTAL HEALTH TECHNICIAN II: Requires knowledge, skill and
mental development equivalent to completion of high school. Requires
successful completion of an approved trainee program and six months
experience in or applicable to the care, treatment, or habilitation of
persons with mental illness or developmental disabilities. Work Hours &
