    DA Victim Services Coordinator Salary $31,200.00 - $35,129.00 Annually Location Cherokee County, NC Job Type Time-Limited Full-Time Department District Attorney Job Number 2018-14320 Closing 1/20/2019 5:00 PM Eastern Description of Work This position is time-limited, grant funded, full-time. Funding for this position expires September 30, 2019. The Office of the District Attorney, Prosecutorial District 30, seeks a qualified candidate to provide legal support services to the prosecutors in the Cherokee County office. The selected candidate will provide services to victims of crime in the District Attorney's office including victim notification, courtroom education, secure waiting areas, travel scheduling, trial preparation and/or helping victims and witnesses understand and prepare for court, compensation and restitution assistance, referrals to victim advocacy agencies, gathering information from victims to assist in the prosecution of cases, and informing victims of their rights as victims. Duties include but are not limited to the following: Review case files to identify all potential victims. Instruct victims and witnesses on courtroom procedures, answer questions, provide program information, and may conduct tours of the courtroom. Assist victims with completion of impact statements, and compensation and restitution forms. Ensure all available services are provided to victims and witnesses, and check the status of services being provided. Refer victims and witnesses to social service agencies when indicated. Assist victims to recover their property. Maintain files on all victims and witnesses; select or compose letters; and update case files as necessary. Determine which victims and witnesses are required in court and ensure their notification; and ensure appropriate subpoenas are issued. Coordinate the telephone stand-by system to maintain contact with witnesses regarding their appearance before the court. Arrange transportation, hotel accommodations, childcare, and when necessary, intercede with employers. Notify victims and officers of the status of their cases, including final disposition. Prepare monthly statistical reports reflecting case activity. Compose correspondence as necessary. Handle routine inquires by phone or in person. May present community awareness programs; and recruit and train volunteers and/or interns. Assist victims in registering for post-disposition notification. May attend victim interviews with a District Attorney upon request. This position reports to the District Attorney. Work hours are 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies Knowledge of: criminal justice and court system procedures; legal terminology; and community resources to refer victims and witnesses. Skill in: Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; accurately typing 35-40 wpm; and answering a multi-line telephone system. Ability to: interview to elicit information from victims and witnesses to ensure appropriate services; coordinate and schedule daily operations of the victim and witness program; manage the court appearances of victims and witnesses to ensure their presence in the courtroom when needed; communicate orally and in writing with persons of diverse backgrounds; establish and maintain effective working relationships with law enforcement officers, officials of related agencies, and the general public; and calmly handle stressful situations. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Graduation from high school or high school equivalency certificate and two (2) years of legal secretarial experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
