The position (located in Raleigh, NC) is in the Communications Office and will assist with communications including writing, media relations and will serve as a spokesperson for NCDOT. This position involves planning, developing, executing and evaluating communication outreach strategies and plans that promote the department and its programs to both internal and external audiences. This position will engage with the media. The employee is responsible for writing news releases, articles, communication plans, social media content and speeches. This employee will need to work with each assigned area to identify communications needs, and will proactively pursue opportunities to effectively communicate NCDOT's goals and promote its programs to a variety of audiences. The employee will interact occasionally with the Transportation Secretary, N.C. Board of Transportation, deputy secretaries and other senior management as well as division engineers and other employees.Preference will be given to candidates that have project management experience. It is crucial that this employee understands and supports the goals and commitments of the NCDOT so these can be effectively communicated internally and externally through available mediums. The employee must have the ability to synthesize complex information so it easily can be understood by a variety of audiences. This position also requires the ability to balance multiple responsibilities under a tight deadline and to maintain professional working relationships with individuals both within and outside the department. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Bachelor's degree in communications, public relations, public affairs, media journalism, English, or a related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in communications, public relations, or publicity work; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
