    HVAC Mechanic I Salary $36,677.00 - $62,092.00 Annually Location Stanly County, NC Job Type Permanent Full-Time Department Dept of Public Safety Job Number 19-00002 Closing 1/8/2019 5:00 PM Eastern Description of Work This position is located at Albemarle Correctional Institution in Badin, NC. This is a medium custody male correctional facility. Work in this position will provide journey level work in the areas of heating/air conditioning and refrigeration. Design, install, service, and repair HVAC energy control management systems in renovations. Assist in the installation of electrical conduit and wiring for HVAC equipment and other equipment. Electrical troubleshooting of HVAC electrical circuits. Perform preventive maintenance. Instruct lower level assistants and inmates in performing less technical repairs. Provide technical guidance and support to other staff members in the area of HVAC energy control management systems. Work from instruction by supervisor, policies, the North Carolina Building Code Manuals, OSHA regulations, and safety policies/procedures. Requires great physical effort and strength in the installation, repair, and removal of HVAC systems. Will work with medium and minimum custody male inmates and have frequent contact with other inmates. Will be required, at times, to perform repairs on equipment outside of specialty trade. Must be diversified and have a general knowledge of several trades. The ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and to prescribe and perform procedures for repair. Skill in the use of tools and equipment utilized in the repair of air conditioning systems. Possess working knowledge of refrigeration theory and working knowledge of electricity efficient to troubleshoot and repair complex electrical control systems. Working knowledge of the design and operation of centrifugal and reciprocal compressors and the design and operation of pneumatic control systems. These KSAs, along with the minimum education and experience listed, are required in order to be deemed "eligible" for the position. Therefore you must demonstrate through documented experience or provide supporting information within the body of your application to demonstrate your possession of ALL KSAs listed. Documented knowledge of the practices, methods, materials, and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of air conditioning and refrigeration systems Minimum Education and Experience Requirements High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.
