Candidates who accept an offer of employment with the Division of Benefits and Medical Eligibility will be required to attend mandatory training during the first 4 to 6 months of employment. JOB SUMMARY: Eligibility Interviewers are responsible for providing quality customer service to the public while interviewing and gathering pertinent information to complete the benefit determination process for Nutrition Assistance (NA formerly known as Food Stamps), Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS) Medical Assistance (MA) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Cash Assistance (CA) . The eligibility interview process is completed in a high volume office environment. JOB DUTIES: * Complete interviews lasting approximately 30 to 60 minutes with clients who are seeking public assistance, benefits interviews are conducted face to face or over the phone for at least 6.5 hours per day. * Gather documents and/or complete data entry to determine eligibility for benefits of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and Medicaid * Evaluate a clients current family and living situation, as well as work and income; apply that information to policy and laws for each of the 3 programs; applying information appropriately to each program and entering data into two different eligibility systems. * Provide excellent customer service as well as be empathetic to clients situations. Communicate effectively with clients both internal and external * Attend daily meetings; type, read and interpret policy; have an understanding of multiline phones; knowledge of computers to include using a mouse and keyboard; Microsoft Outlook and other Microsoft office software. * Ability to attend training and learn how to complete the above job duties. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Knowledge of:

    • Knowledge of internet and email use, task management and MS Office software, such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Skill in: * Skill in conducting interviews and gathering information while providing excellent customer service to clients seeking benefits offered by the Division * Skill in typing with speed and accuracy Ability to: * Ability to apply basic mathematical skills to determine public assistance eligibility. * Ability to learn basic federal, state and agency statutes, rules and regulations applicable to the public assistance programs. * Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with both internal and external clients, including other state agencies and community resources * Ability to work at least 40 hours per week and provide support to the team or department * Ability to provide proof of obtaining a High school diploma or GED SELECTIVE PREFERENCE(S): * At least two (2) years of customer service work experience which includes 1 year of interviewing, evaluating and determining eligibility (preferred). Sixty (60) semester hours applicable towards an Associates or Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in behavioral or social science, psychology, business administration or a closely related field may substitute for 1 year of the work experience. PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS: * Have a current, valid Arizona State issued drivers license appropriate to the assignment. Employee is subject to drivers license record checks and must maintain an acceptable driving record, valid motor vehicle insurance and registration, and must complete any required training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12). Travel is required for training and meetings, which may require an overnight stay * Successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify), applicable to all newly hired State employees * Be subject to a search of Child Protective Services Central Registry * Successfully pass background and reference checks.
