The Kansas Bureau of Investigation is accepting applications to fill a Criminal Intelligence Analyst position located in Great Bend, Kansas as part of the Midwest High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA). PRIMARY DUTIES The primary functions of a Research Analyst is to collect, collate, research, and analyze all available information concerning a variety of investigations, organizations, programs, or projects in support of the investigative mission as assigned by the supervisor. A Research Analyst must be able to analyze information from various sources of information to include, but not limited to: investigative reports, open-source reporting, subpoenaed information, case files, informant debriefings, seized documents, and other foreign, federal, state, or local agency reporting. Information obtained will be analyzed and documented in reports of investigation, strategic assessments, special reports, etc. Applicant may be required to testify before a grand jury or in a courtroom. A Research Analyst maintains liaison with federal, state, and local agencies to enhance intelligence sharing. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Six (6) months of experience in collecting, evaluating, studying or reporting on statistical, economic, fiscal/budget, legislative or administrative data. Education may be substituted for experience as determined relevant by the agency. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: College degree with emphasis in Criminal Justice or Intelligence Studies. MINIMUM COMPETENCIES Strong analytical skills required. Knowledge of English, spelling, grammar and arithmetic required. Knowledge of standard statistical methods and their application to the analysis and evaluation of data. Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, database and web-based applications required. Proficiency in data entry, with emphasis on accuracy. Ability to organize and clearly express information in concise written form. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to summarize and analyze statistical data on investigative activities extracted from reports, memoranda, correspondence, or information obtained from law enforcement agencies, as well as computer databases, and personal interviews. Ability to organize and prioritize work assignments. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Ability to effectively communicate with and maintain favorable public relations and working relationships with administrative officials, local governmental officials, fellow employees, court officials and the public.
