Please take a moment and watch the linked video to learn how the Department of Justice serves the citizens of Montana. **Job Overview: ** This Motor Vehicle Division position is responsible for providing information to the public on eligibility requirements for all classes of driver licensing, military renewals, special endorsements, out-of-jurisdiction transfers, Driver Education, Cooperative Driver Training Program, commercial upgrades, Donate Life Program, Motor Voter Program, and Montana Identification Cards, as well as administering comprehensive driver licensing procedures to determine qualified Class D motor vehicle operators through written and road tests of applicants, as well as conducting appropriate testing to determine qualification for Commercial Driver Licensing from written examinations to conducting pre-trip inspections, basic skills and road testing demonstrating proficiency in operating a commercial motor vehicle; conducting VIN inspections to identify legal violations and fraudulence; providing a range of program coordination and support services. Incumbent must be able to bend and independently lift and transport supplies and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds in and out of the vehicle as required; performing a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor. Knowledge and skill to operate computers and business software applications including databases, spreadsheets, word processing, email, internet and other computer programs; general office equipment; excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong judgment, decision-making, and problem-solving skills; and skill dealing with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. Advanced knowledge of customer service practices and techniques; working knowledge of office practices and procedures; business English (letter and memo formatting), grammar spelling, basic mathematics; records management and daily reconciliation and balancing of money. This position requires knowledge and skill in driving and backing passenger vehicles; safely operating vehicles in all weather and road conditions. ** **Ability to acquire, within a reasonable time on-the-job, knowledge of detailed multi-component licensing procedures and standards; of applicable laws, rules and regulations, and State, Department, and Division statutes, rules, policies, and procedures. Ability to understand and apply detailed instructions with minimal assistance; multitask; be self-motivated; possess a strong work ethic; maintain a positive attitude; and enjoy working with, and for, the public. Requires the ability to explain and instruct others regarding application procedures, laws, rules, regulations, or policies; interpret and apply federal and state laws regarding licensing and motor vehicle operations; and to determine appropriate procedures and sources of information. Ability to apply unbiased analysis and judgment when evaluating skills test performance of applicants for all classes of licenses. Ability to display an appropriate element of compassion and empathy when reviewing unsuccessful testing results (both written and road) with an applicant, or informing an applicant that you cannot proceed with their credentialing process because they do not have the appropriate/required documents. Above average ability to manage and mediate confrontational situations and deal effectively with difficult people. -High school diploma or GED -Two years of experience working with a variety of word processing, database, and other business software applications and programs and providing customer service over the telephone or in person to include one year of experience working with monetary transactions.
