This is a grant-funded position, supervised by the States Attorney. The position is full-time, Monday-Friday. Starting salary $21.77.     • See Instructions Below Duties Advocacy, coordination and guidance of services for victims of crime through state and federal grant-funded Victim Assistance Program. The position works to reduce the adverse impacts of criminal victimization to ensure fair and appropriate treatment of the victim by the entities with whom the victim may expect to interact (states attorneys, law enforcement, courts, corrections, etc.). Makes referrals for support and assistance to address issues that result from victimization. Required to manage caseload in a timely and effective manner. Must represent the program and States Attorneys Office in a professional and respectful manner. Examples of Work Provides assistance to the victim in navigating the criminal justice system. Identify the needs and concerns of the victim and transmit that information to appropriate parties. Apprise victims of their rights. Keep victim updated about the status of the criminal case, seek input, and provide notification of key events (e.g. scheduled depositions, arraignments, conferences, jury draw, court dates). Support victim through depositions and trial preparation. Help victim identify necessary documentation for restitution. Attend key events (e.g. depositions, status conferences and/or trial) with the victim as necessary or requested. Help with the scheduling of appearance(s) of the victim to reduce inconvenience or risk of harm. Assist with arranging transportation and child care if necessary in order to appear in court. Assists victims in retrieving property from law enforcement and in obtaining protection from harm and threats of harm arising out of the cooperation with the criminal justice process. Assists victims in obtaining witness fees and/or victims compensation and minimizing loss of pay or other benefits resulting from participation in depositions, hearings, or trial. Must engage in timely data entry of cases as directed by the Department, and in compliance with grant-funding agencies rules, as applicable Expected Skills Ability to work independently, exercise initiative, and maintain confidentiality. Ensure accuracy in work product; Ability to maintain self-composure under stressful situations; Ability to respectfully interact with all co-workers and supervisors, the public and partner organizations. Must have excellent interpersonal skills, and demonstrate empathy, emotional intelligence and maturity, particularly in dealing with victims of crime and other vulnerable populations. Ability to collect data and write reports for the department, grant agencies or legislature. Excellent skills in writing and oral communications. Ability to use Microsoft Office programs and the SAS case management system(s). Environmental Factors Duties are normally performed in an office or courtroom setting. Travel may be required for which private means of transportation must be available. Must be able to work under pressure and deal with victims in emotionally-charged circumstances. Employees may expect that some work duties will occur outside standard work hours. Minimum Qualifications Bachelors Degree. One year of work experience at or above a technical support level in counseling, social work, legal work, human services program delivery, criminal justice, paralegal work, or other related, relevant discipline. Additional work experience can be substituted for the Bachelors degree on a 6-month for semester basis.
