    The Systems Administrator supporting the Veterans Evaluation Services (VES) administered by Maximus, makes an impact everyday by building, operating, and maintaining servers operating in a variety of environments. The IT Systems Administrator is responsible for monitoring and maintaining acceptable performance of system infrastructure. To prepare you for this role, the VES provides paid, comprehensive training which ensures all new employees provide the highest levels of knowledge and professionalism.

    As a federal contractor, Maximus is subject to Executive Order 14042 and the Safe Workforce Task Force's COVID-19 Workplace Safety Guidance for Federal Contractors and Subcontractors. In light of these requirements, all employees will eventually need to be fully vaccinated as a condition of employment and new hires/employees will be required to provide proof of vaccination.

    This position is temporarily remote due to Covid-19, however, YOU MUST BE ABLE AND WILLING TO WORK ON SITE IN OUR HOUSTON, TX location should need arise.

    JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARY

    PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Install new/rebuild existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
    • Install, configure and upgrade systems such as supports Infrastructure applications or Asset Management applications per project or operational needs
    • Research and recommend innovative, and where possible automated approaches for system administration tasks. Identify approaches that leverage our resources and provide economies of scale
    • Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups
    • Perform regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions
    • Provide Tier III/other support per request from various constituencies. Investigate and troubleshoot issues
    • Repair and recover from hardware or software failures. Coordinate and communicate with impacted constituencies
    • Apply OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis and upgrade administrative tools and utilities. Configure / add new services as necessary
    • Perform periodic performance reporting to support capacity planning
    • Perform ongoing performance tuning, hardware upgrades, and resource optimization as required. Configure CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required
    • Maintain data center environmental and monitoring equipment
    • Perform Helpdesk duties to include answering phones, after-hours on-call, responding to emails and resolve issues in a timely manner
    • Utilize applications necessary for system administration, including/not limited to Windows Server, Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, SQL Server, SCCM, Microsoft Lync, VMWare, FaxCore, Max Administrator, Track-It, Team Viewer, and Citrix XenDesktop.
    • Maintenance of desktops, printers, scanners, Altigen phones

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

    • 4+ years of experience as a System Administrator and/or Network Administrator required
    • Related degrees and certifications a plus
    • Be on-call 24 hours a day two weeks per month to answer off-hour calls and emails
    • Intermediate experience or intermediate knowledge of, Windows Server, Active Directory, Exchange, VMWare, Citrix XenDesktop, VoIP and Cisco networking devices
    • Administration duties will also include networking functions
    • Minimal traveling outside of state required
    • Extended hours are frequently required beyond the regular eight-hour work-day, including nights and weekends
    • Frequently utilizes computer, telephone, and e-mail
    • Normal office environment with some exposure to moderate noise from office equipment and/or generated by other staff members
    • Occasionally lifting and/or carrying materials or items weighing up to approximately forty pounds.
    • Generally, a sedentary job but requires walking and standing approximately twenty-five percent of work time to carry out some job duties

    • Preferred Windows or Mac (no Chromebook) that is no more than 5 years old

      • OS for Mac - Big Sur (11.0.1+); Catalina (10.15)
    • Preferred memory - 4+ GB
    • If you need an additional monitor, you will need to purchase separately with company reimbursement up to $120
    • Hardwired internet (ethernet) connection
    • Private work area and adequate power source
