Windstorm Inspector Internal/External Posting TDI Employees and General Public This position inspects buildings constructed in the first tier of counties along the Texas Gulf Coast for building code compliance in order to be considered insurable property for windstorm coverage through the Texas Windstorm Insurance Association. The Windstorm Inspector: * meets with contractors, builders, agents, consumers, and professional engineers on building code requirements; * performs inspections of residential and commercial properties; * prepares field office progress reports for Austin office; * maintains records; * responds to technical inquiries, both verbal and written; * develops and facilitates educational programs and speaking events for the public and industry professionals regarding TDI rules, policies, and changes; * responds to and resolves complaints; * assists with special projects; and * performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Graduation from high school or equivalent. Education and experience relevant to the position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis. Additionally, this position requires: * one year experience in a field relative to assignment; * a Class C Texas Drivers License; * travel on a consistent basis; * possible relocation to another coastal field office; and * being certified by having passed the International Code Council (ICC) Coastal exam or its equivalent within one year from date of hire. Preferences for this position include: * knowledge of windstorm building code, and other laws and statutes which may govern the construction of structures on the Texas Gulf Coast. This position requires demonstrated knowledge of: * windstorm building code, and other laws and statutes which may govern the construction of structures on the Texas Gulf Coast; * insurance principles and practices; and * applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. This position requires demonstrated skill in: * problem solving, decision making, and planning; * using computers including experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access software applications; * using standard office equipment; * using personal computers sufficient to enter and extract data from related systems and programs, such as Oracle; and * operating a motor vehicle in a safe courteous manner in compliance with traffic laws. This position requires the demonstrated ability to: * read and comprehend building codes; * comprehend and apply regulatory rules and statutes; * conduct inspections and identify non-code compliant findings; * apply critical thinking to analyze and solve work problems;
