Intern - Community Corrections Location City County Building, IN Job Type Internship Department Marion County Community Corrections Job Number 04282 Position Summary The Intern position requires an individual who is responsible, organized, and versatile. Having computer skills, a willingness to learn and the ability to work in a fast paced environment is a plus. While an effort is made to expose the intern to a variety of skills needed to be successful in the criminal justice field, many of the intern's tasks will consist of assisting Case Managers (CM) with the day-to-day functions of their caseloads. Locations: Duvall Residential Center-Work Release, 1848 Ludlow Ave., Indianapolis, IN 46201 Electronic Monitoring, 140 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46204 Hours: Agency hours for interns are Monday Friday from 8:00 am-4:30 pm Your internship schedule will be based around your class schedule. We will work with interns throughout the year. Our agency observes major holidays each calendar year. The internship position is an unpaid position. Position Responsibilities Intern Responsibilities: Intern responsibilities are to assist the CM with day-to-day functions of their caseload. These functions include but are not limited to: Court attendance, office visits, documentation/data entry, filing, employment verification, case planning, coordinating treatment referrals, monitoring treatment compliance, returning client phone calls, intake duties, and other duties as deemed appropriate by the supervisor. All functions would be carried out under the supervision of a seasoned CM and/or the supervisor of the Component. Additional assistance, if needed, may come from Deputy Directors within the agency and/or additional Supervisors within the agency. Requirements for conducting office visits: Before conducting an office visit on their own, an intern must observe a minimum of ten (10) office visits with a CM. Must be familiar with the case management database and how to document notes in the system. Must be able to explain to the supervising CM the purpose of the office visits and what information is to be obtained. Upon conducting five (5) successful office visits under the supervision of the CM, the intern may conduct office visits on their own. Expected Outcome: Expected outcomes for the intern are that they will be familiar with Community Corrections and the supervision components by the end of the internship experience. They will be familiar with caseload functions, contact standards and procedures, as listed above, and the various electronic monitoring options/equipment. Qualifications Contact Information: The first day of your internship, you will be asked to complete an emergency contact form with names and telephone numbers of individuals our agency should contact in the event of an emergency. Appropriate Office Attire: For men, dress pants and shirt with a collar. If attending Court, a tie is mandatory. For women: dress pants/skirts. No low cut shirts, no spaghetti strap shirts, no shirts exposing the midriff and no flip-flop sandals. Fridays are often times casual dress day which means jeans are permitted, however, jeans must not have holes/tears and should fit properly. Sneakers/tennis shoes are not permitted, except for on casual Fridays. **Rule of thumb: If you think to yourself, "Should I wear this to work?" ... it needs to stay in your closet.
