Automotive Mechanic - Heavy Vehicle Job ID: 30936 Department: Operations Services Location: Various NY/NJ Facilities Responsibilities The Port Authority of NY & NJ is seeking experienced journey-level AUTOMOTIVE MECHANICS to fill positions in our various NY/NJ facilities. The Automotive Mechanic - Heavy Vehicle is responsible for inspection and modification, diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of complex automotive and special equipment, and technically involved auxiliary and control systems. Work is highly specialized in nature and requires an extensive and sound knowledge of automotive technology and practical analyses and skill. Work is performed under circumstances requiring unusual techniques and exceptional judgment. * Starting Salary: $30.68 hourly. Automotive Mechanics are eligible for annual step increases up to an annual salary of $82,467.58 (subject to collective bargaining agreement). * Automotive Mechanics work at our various NY/NJ facilities, such as JFK Airport, LaGuardia Airport and Central Automotive Shop (Jersey City, NJ). * Automotive Mechanics work a 40-hour week, which includes rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, overtime as needed, and during inclement weather and emergencies. Qualifications Candidates must present the following qualifications to be considered eligible for this position: * High School diploma or GED from an accredited institution * Three years journey-level experience in performing skilled automotive work involving inspection, diagnosis, modification, maintenance, and repair on complex automotive and other special equipment * Valid Drivers License * New York State and/or New Jersey State Emissions Inspector License (selected applicants without this license must obtain within six months of employment) * Applicants must possess a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the Air Brakes endorsement or higher. Applicants without a Class B CDL must obtain a Class B CDL Permit with endorsement before their first day of work, and will be required to obtain a Class B CDL with one endorsement within three months of employment.
