You qualify at the GS-09 level if you possess one year of specialized experience assisting senior specialists in preparing budget requests; updating data on spreadsheets; analyzing office procedures pertaining to budgetary matters; executing specific portions of projects relevant to budget and/or finance; problem solving; and advising staff on methods and procedures. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Combining Experience and Education: To combine your education and experience, you must convert each to a percentage, and then add the percentages. The combined total of your percentage of education and experience must equal at least 100% in order to qualify.
