Volunteer Legal Intern, Fall 2018 Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) Office of the Chief Immigration Judge Law Student Volunteer, Academic Year 4250 Federal Drive Batavia , NY 14020 United States About the Office: The primary mission of the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) is to adjudicate immigration cases by fairly, expeditiously, and uniformly interpreting and administering the Nation's immigration laws. Under delegated authority from the Attorney General, EOIR conducts immigration court proceedings, appellate reviews, and administrative hearings. Job Description: The internship is an unpaid/volunteer position. Interns work under the supervision of the Attorney Advisor, but will interact with individual Immigration Judges. Assignments vary depending on the Courts docket, but generally entail: Research and preparation of memoranda on complex legal issues Drafting decisions on motions pending before the Court Drafting decisions on applications for relief from removal Completion of projects related to court functioning and immigration law During the course of the internship, the intern will be able to observe removal hearings and work on cases involving several forms of relief from removal, including asylum, adjustment of status, and cancellation of removal.
