Duties Seed Orchard Intern Summer 2019 Recruitment # 2018-11-9387 SALARY RANGE: Sophomore and under: $2,349 per month Junior: $2,523 per month Senior: $2,697 per month Graduate student: up to $3,219 per month * DNR provides housing in some locations or a $500/month (maximum of three months) housing stipend if free housing is not available. TYPE OF POSITION: One available position Exempt Position: Non-permanent, Full-time Flexible start date with aa3-month duration LOCATION: Olympia, WA Exact work location is approximately 10 miles SW of Olympia CLOSES: January 21, 2019 POSITION PROFILE: This position will assist permanent staff in a variety of jobs related to forest genetics and seed orchard management. The work will provide exposure to a range of activities associated with tree testing and seed production to support reforestation programs. Travel is required to locations around the state, with per diem paid by DNR. Responsibilities include: preparation of progeny sites for measurements and thinning; working with seed orchard staff on maintenance and operation of the seed orchard sites. Qualifications REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Applicant must be a student majoring in Forestry, Natural Resource Management or related field and will be returning to school in a following quarter/semester. High level of attention to detail Physical ability to work alone or as part of a team in undeveloped, remote, forested or back-county landscapes and terrain Experience using Microsoft office products including Excel and Word DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Desired course work includes: Silviculture Forest Mensuration or Biometrics Forest Ecology Candidates should have work or recreational experience driving on logging roads. SPECIAL POSITION REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS Ability to work on uneven terrain in all weather conditions. The incumbent in this position is required to travel. Must have a valid driver's license and have two years of driving experience.
