    Major Duties

    • Database Administrator (DBA) and provides database administration support for enterprise level database platforms including Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server and IBM DB2/UDB.
    • Responsible for participating in the design, development, integration, testing, implementation, and deployment of systems governing and affecting the storage, security, retrieval, and integrity of data.
    • Defines and allocates storage capacity in the design of data management systems.
    • Specifies and administers quality control methods; drafts detailed and comprehensive documentation covering user requirements, system design, new software and software modifications.
    • Ensures all security vulnerabilities are mitigated and that appropriate security databases are updated with mitigation actions.
    • Monitors system, data, and network security requirements that affect database communications or interoperability and implements DOD Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) Information Assurance Vulnerability Alerts (IAVA).
    • Resolves all problems associated with Security Technical Implementation Guidance (STIG) compliance; performs System Readiness Reviews (SRR) scans on databases.
    • Resolves identified vulnerabilities and creates Program Organization and Milestones (POA Ms) for open vulnerabilities requiring additional time to resolve.
    • Ensures all assigned enterprise databases and database applications are kept current; ensures all processes are documented within approved CM product and advises management of potential and actual shortfalls.

    Qualification Summary

    To qualify for a Database Adminstrator, your resume and supporting documentation must support: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Develops data dictionaries, data models, metadata repositories, and other database configuration designs. Drafts detailed and comprehensive documentation covering user requirements, system design, new software and software modifications. Evaluates IT security products and services to recommend the acquisition of, implement, and disseminate IT security tools, procedures, and practices to protect information assets. Determines critical tasks and critical paths; establishes formal tracking systems to monitor progress with respect to time and resources and monitors project progress. B. Education: Applicants may not qualify for this position based on education in lieu of specialized experience. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
