    Major Duties

    • Coordinates the preparation of construction plans and specifications for assigned projects with design elements.
    • Negotiates with the requesting activity, design agent, and Architect, Engineer (A/E) firm on project design and recommends approval of final plans and specifications.
    • Recommends work and furnishes specific, detailed engineering input to the A,E firm; and, monitors work in progress to assure it is progressing in a direction and rate to produce a desired, acceptable product.
    • Plans, develops and coordinates minor construction, maintenance and repair projects, including facilities, structures, utility systems, open storage, grounds, truck scales and installed equipment such as racks, balers, shears and conveyor systems.
    • Attends negotiations with Contracting Officers to provide back-up costs.
    • Performs both preliminary and final acceptance project inspections.
    • Supports activities with relocations; conducts on-site and off-site inspections to assess facility; space requirements, maintenance capabilities, and evaluate proposal adequacy and accuracy.

    Qualification Summary

    To qualify for a Engineering Technician (Civil), your resume and supporting documentation must support: A. GS-11 Level Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-11 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-10 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Conducting studies and providing analysis and evaluations of potential projects. Developing design details and drafted specifications for structures, systems or equipment. Demonstrating knowledge of project design reviews that insure facility mechanical, electrical and civil engineering principles are in compliances with statutory and regulatory guidance. Modifying testing programs to test engineering processes, systems, or structures under varying loads and operating conditions. Reads and interprets engineering and architectural plans and specifications. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
