    Major Duties

    • Serves as work leader/senior supply specialist, performing a wide variety of work assignments in a self contained distribution operation involved in the receipt, inspection, storage, safeguarding, and handling of hazardous materials/property.
    • Plans work to be accomplished by team members.
    • Estimates and reports on expected time of completion of work and maintains records of work accomplishments and time expended.
    • Amends or rejects work not meeting established standards.
    • Analyzes chemical percentages of hazardous mixtures and solutions according to percent by weight as well as parts per million (ppm) to determine Reportable Quantities (RQ) limits.
    • Prepares cost estimates to package, repackage, and pack hazardous material shipments for storage and transportation.
    • Reviews and analyzes distribution facilities storage space management, inventory management and packaging issues.
    • Monitors automated systems to gather data used to determine proper rerouting of material and/or corrective action to be taken.

    Qualification Summary

    Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To qualify at the GS-09 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Responsible for studying and evaluating the site's use of storage space. Review Hazardous Characteristic Codes (HCC) assignment for material destined for storage and determines that proper storage is in accordance with segregation and compatibility requirements. Identifies the need for special packing, loading and handling of materials, and the need for specialized transport equipment Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Demands: Routinely handles hazardous material/property. Work frequently requires walking and standing on hard surfaces, maintaining balance for extended periods of lime. It requires recurring bending, crouching, stooping, reaching and twisting in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 40 pounds. May lift greater weights with assistance. Must be able to sift/relocate heavy materials using appropriate materials handling equipment. Working Environment: Work is done inside and outside for long duration to complete immediate tasks. Inside work is perform d In a warehouse. Outside work is subject to inclement weather. Discomfort Is experienced while wearing protective clothing, respirators, goggles, or face masks. Worker may be exposed to hazardous vapors, liquids, powders and solids and the possibility of cuts and bruises. May be subject to hazards of working close to moving equipment, e.g., forklifts, truck and conveyor fines.
