Qualification Summary
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard for Trades and Labor Occupations. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. Emphasis is placed on how you gained the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time, and the required ability or potential to perform the job. Applicants who do not meet the screen-out element (SOE) will be eliminated from further competition. The SOE and minimum qualifications for this position is: I perform the common tasks of the job to be filled but under close supervision, such as installing, repairing, maintaining, overhauling, and servicing of HVAC systems; providing assistance with complex tasks and projects. Selective Placement Factor: Must possess a valid state driver's license and be capable of obtaining and maintaining a government license for operating government vehicles from 1⁄2 ton pickup to 11⁄2 ton trucks. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Effort: The incumbent frequently carries and sets up parts and equipment's that weigh up to 50 pounds. Work requires walking, standing, climbing, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Repairs and installations are made from ladders, scaffolding, and platforms. Work is frequently performed in hard-to-reach places; therefore, stooping, stretching, bending, and kneeling are often for long periods. Working Conditions: Work is normally performed inside a well-lighted, fairly clean enclosed area. The incumbent is subject to hazards of fumes, gases, electrical shocks and explosions, burn from torches, motors and steam, fiberglass, spun glass, grease, oils and dust. The incumbent may be subject to hazards of cold weather, abnormal heat, and working in cramped quarters. Works outside on top of tall buildings, in drafty attic spaces, and in cramped areas with low overheads. Wears face masks and protective clothing when there is a possibility of exposure to toxic refrigerants.
