    Major Duties

    • Provides in-depth cyber technical expertise in all aspects of cyber defense analysis to include identifying and mitigating malicious cyber activity.
    • Ensures cyber defenders have visibility of pertinent activity within all environments, on premise, cloud, and disconnected operational technology networks to protect against attempted cyber intrusions by nation state adversaries.
    • Architects and directs the enterprise-level strategy for heuristic and signature-based threat detection.
    • Exercising authoritative oversight of the Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) solution and dictating the strategic direction for log ingestion and analysis.
    • Researches, develops, and implements methodologies for emerging technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), Large Language Models (LLMs), DevSecOps, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
    • Serves as the chief technical advisor to senior leadership and team leads on overarching strategies to mature incident detection capabilities against sophisticated Advanced Persistent Threats (APTs) and insider threats.
    • Directs the correlation of data from diverse intelligence and security sources to formulate a definitive, actionable threat picture, ensuring a cohesive and integrated defense across the enterprise.

    Qualification Summary

    To qualify for a IT Cybersecurity Specialist (INFOSEC), your resume and supporting documentation must support: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-14 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Reviews proposed new systems, networks, and software designs for potential security risks; recommends mitigation or countermeasures; and resolves integration issues related to the implementation of new systems within the existing infrastructure Leads enterprise-level cyber defense analysis by providing in-depth technical expertise, identifying and mitigating malicious cyber activity, ensuring visibility across on-premise, cloud, and operational technology environments, architecting advanced heuristic and signature-based threat detection strategies Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
