    Major Duties

    • Serves as an Information Technology (IT) Specialist (INFOSEC) with responsibility for participating in assessing security needs and capabilities of DoD Information Systems.
    • Develops purposeful security designs or configurations that adhere to a common architecture and maximizes the use of common services.
    • Implements and assists in the implementation of required DoD and DLA controls or safeguards, as well as providing the ability to audit, test and verify implementations.
    • Participates in the change management process to ensure a secure baseline is maintained.
    • Ensures that access to information systems is granted to individuals based on a need-to-know and are made and maintained in accordance with DoD and DLA security and training policies.

    Qualification Summary

    To qualify for an IT Specialist (INFOSEC), your resume and supporting documentation must include: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: - Assesses security needs and capabilities by assisting with tracing Information Assurance (IA) as a programmatic entity in the Planning, Programming, and Budgeting Execution (PPBE) process. - Develops a purposeful security designs or configurations that adheres to a common architecture and maximizes the use of common services. - Performs comprehensive cost- benefit analysis of items considered (i.e. quality, reliability, capability and cost of hardware/software/related enhancements vs. constantly evolving technology) and documents findings and recommendations. - Provides the systematic identification of asset vulnerabilities and directs, tracks, and coordinates mitigations. - Provides direction to system developers regarding correction of security problems identified during testing. Examines vulnerabilities and determines actions to mitigate them. Develops and applies effective vulnerability countermeasures for the program. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
