    Major Duties

    • Performs UNIX system administration and hardware/ software management for the enterprise DLA computer operating environments.
    • Ensures computer hardware or peripheral maintenance to include diagnostic testing, configuration, installation, and repair of all original components as well as upgrade and add-on components.
    • Ensures all UNIX operating systems software, production libraries and files are backed up as documented in the local agency disaster and continuity (COOP) plan and properly maintained at an alternate site.
    • Provides technical advice, guidance, and assistance to agency developers and technicians in the area of UNIX systems services
    • contd and administration techniques, UNIX systems hardware and software configuration and current system functional capabilities and limitations.
    • Participates on Process Action Teams (PAT) to define and coordinate new/ changed computing environment requirements.
    • Develops proposed policies, operational guidelines, and implementing instructions on UNIX system software, hardware, communications, and operational matters.

    Qualification Summary

    To qualify for an IT Specialist (SYSADMIN/INFOSEC) your resume and supporting documentation must support: A. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-12 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: - Provides recommendations and advice to enterprise customers on proposed computer improvements and changes to include but not limited to UNIX operating system upgrades/ replacements, storage technology, and distributed computer strategy (hardware, system software, communications, etc.). - Provides technical support to applications programmers and system customers to resolve problems concerning the use of UNIX system hardware/software. - Participates in feasibility/performance studies of implementing near and long-term UNIX computing strategies based on standard DLA technical architecture. For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed: 1. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
